4S Symposium – Majorca, Spain

In conjunction with AAC Microtec, OAI successfully demonstrated the Global Test Bed (GTB) at the annual Small Satellites Systems and Services (4S) Symposium. Held 26-30 May 2014 in Majorca,  Spain, OAI and AAC submitted an abstract titled “The Global Test Bed (GTB) – Borderless Design & Development Implications” to the 4S Symposium, which was accepted for an oral presentation.  On April 25, 2014, in support of the abstract, OAI and AAC submitted a paper discussing the GTB, it was authored by Stanley O. Kennedy, Jr. and Maureen O’Brien (OAI); and, Johan Backstrom and Robert Lindegren (AAC).  Maureen and Johan presented the GTB paper on opening day of the Symposium (Monday, May 26, 2014), while OAI and AAC performed demonstrations of the GTB on Tuesday and Wednesday (four demonstrations total), with OAI personnel (Warren Langley) in Denver controlling an SSBV provided reaction wheel in Majorca.  Warren stated on the GTB demonstration, “OAI continues to demonstrate to the world, literally, that we are trailblazers of open modular technology.” Congrats to the team on a successful presentation!

The maturity of the event is marked by the close cooperation with two other prominent Small Satellite conferences: The Symposium on Small Satellites for Earth Observation (IAA and DLR) and The Small Satellites Conference (AIAA and USU). The information synergies and idea exchange originating from these close links ensure high standard of contributions and a very wide attendance.”
